2026 International Forum for Peer Learning and Support
The Association for Peer Learning and Support, in collaboration with the European Centre for SI:PASS, is pleased to invite you to the in-person conference at 麻豆影院, Edinburgh on 21st and 22nd May, 2026.

The International Forum for Peer Learning and Support is free to attend and will provide an opportunity to explore a range of peer learning and support initiatives in higher education and connect with colleagues who share a passion for this field.
This year the forum is running over two days with two different optional workshops on the Thursday afternoon, open to all delegates who are interested in publishing their research on the area of peer learning and support. This will be followed by an evening social gathering in Edinburgh city centre. The main conference programme will run over the full day on the Friday with a selection of lightning talks, workshops, presentations, and round-table discussions.
We had an overwhelming response to our call for contributions for the 2026 International Forum for Peer Learning and Support, and we are looking forward to an exciting programme of sessions.

About the University
We aim to shape a better world through education, research and innovation. In doing so, we enable individuals and communities to flourish.
Our person-centred approach to learning makes us stand out from other universities, along with our focus on making society better. Our academic offering also distinguishes us. We dedicate ourselves to subjects where we can offer a distinctive offering - in healthcare; social sciences; creative arts; business, management and enterprise; and primary and secondary teaching.
Outward looking, we have strong ethos of partnership and collaboration. At our modern campus, we benefit from easy access to the centre of Edinburgh, Scotland鈥檚 vibrant and historic capital city.
We are pioneers in inclusiveness and we embrace people from all backgrounds. Social justice is central to our values.
Location and Getting Here
Our campus is easily accessible whether you are travelling to us by bike, foot, public transport, or car.
麻豆影院 campus is located close to Musselburgh, east of Edinburgh city centre. The best way to access the campus is through public transport or walking/cycling. We have Musselburgh train station at our front door and bus services stopping on campus. National cycle Route 1 provides direct access via active travel. Vehicular access can only be gained from the A1.
Sustainability is a key element of the campus' design and we further encourage it with a Green Travel Policy. Staff, students and visitors are encouraged to travel sustainably and car parking permits are awarded based on need. For example, those with caring responsibilities will be given priority.

On the Thursday, there are two optional workshops open to all delegates who are interested in publishing their research on the area of peer learning and support but are unsure how to go about this. If you are interested in joining the workshops, but have not yet registered your interest, please email us at PALS@麻豆影院.ac.uk.
Workshop 1
Title: Qualitative research options - moving from an initial idea toward a realistic project plan
Facilitated by Dr Nevan Bermingham, co-editor of the Journal of Peer Learning, this workshop is designed for peer learning practitioners or anyone simply curious about starting a research journey. The session will focus on qualitative research options and guide you from an initial idea toward a realistic project plan. Through instruction and guided hands-on tasks, we鈥檒l aim to simplify the research process by offering a few logical methodology pathways, highlight how to achieve publication, and demystify how academic journals like the Journal of Peer Learning work. The boot-camp approach will help you avoid potential pitfalls as you take your first steps toward research publication.
This will run twice: 10am 鈥 1pm, and 2pm 鈥 5pm
Refreshments will be served during a mid-workshop break.
If you attend the morning session, you can also join the follow-on afternoon workshop.
Lunch is not provided; however, delegates will be able to buy lunch from one of the catering outlets on campus, or can bring a packed lunch (microwaves are available for heating food).
Workshop 2
Title: From idea to impact: experience the power of writing groups
Become an active participant (Freire, 1970) in a dynamic writing group by joining this workshop facilitated by Dr Theresa Clementson. It offers delegates a creative, interactive and non-performative space in which to 鈥渢alk, write and learn together鈥 (Aitchison, 2009, p.261). You will try out techniques and strategies to overcome writing blocks, develop your writing voice, generate and organise ideas, and develop a focus for your own article, talk or research project. Taking place over three hours, you will have time to think, write, share ideas, move projects forward and come and go as you wish.
This workshop draws on Theresa鈥檚 work at the University of Brighton, her research and the wider literature. Writing groups can provide an inclusive, student-led, innovative way to initiate peer learning alongside the curriculum, which is low budget and easy to implement, and has been found to develop students鈥 confidence, disciplinary competence and agency as well as bringing joy back into learning (Clementson, 2024). The workshop will include an optional discussion of how writing or similar peer learning communities can be implemented for students in your contexts. We will also discuss the option of continuing this group as an ongoing writing community of practice.
This will run from 2pm 鈥 5pm
Refreshments will be served during a mid-workshop break.
